Professional Background
Jim Stiff has been a jury consultant for 30 years and has conducted more than 550 focus group & mock trial research projects in more than 200 cities, and assisted with jury selection in more than 100 cases.
Clients routinely engage Jim in a wide variety of consulting activities, including case strategy and issue development, jury research, witness preparation, and jury selection. Jim specializes in complex cases involving securities, antitrust, contracts, intellectual property, trade secrets, environmental, and personal injury matters.
Prior to his career as a jury consultant, Jim was a tenured university professor specializing in graduate-level courses in interpersonal communication, persuasion theory, and scientific research methods.
He published two books: Persuasive Communication and Deceptive Communication, and authored more than 20 articles in academic journals.

Personal Background
Jim loves children and never met a dog he didn’t like. For more than a decade Jim was a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) and guardian ad litem for 10 children in the Texas and Arizona foster care systems.
Jim is a die-hard Boston Red Sox fan and enjoys enjoys hiking and kayaking at Acadia National Park in Maine.
Jim and Mona are avid travelers and have recently visited Antarctica, Argentina, Denmark, Ecuador, Galapagos Islands, Greece, Israel, Italy, Peru, Russia, Sweeden, and Turkey.
Jim and Mona have plans to visit the Mediterranean, East Africa, Australia and New Zealand in 2021.
Jim’s parents instilled a strong work ethic and shaped his world view. Without the benefit of a college education, Jim’s father, John, built and managed the world’s first liquid helium refinery in Otis, Kansas.
He went on to become the became the foremost expert on the production of liquid helium. Jim’s mother, Marlene, was dedicated to raising their ten children and actively involved with her church.
Jim’s daughter is an author and his son-in-law is a software engineer.
